Artist Statement

I am Lauren Brooks from Columbus, Ohio. I have been a visual storyteller since I was young. No matter where life has taken me, I always come back to the paper and canvas. My work is inspired by nature and I find beauty in all aspects of life. Through bold colors and whimsical content, I interpret the world around me. I enjoy acrylic paints, ink, alcohol ink, charcoal and photography.

My acrylic paintings have been shown at the 83 Gallery and “C-Note” at Junctionview Gallery in 2008. I have had photography featured for auction at the “Sawhira” fundraiser at the Columbus Museum of Art in 2008. I have had photography pieces hung in “All that Photography” shows at Madlab 2008 and 2009. In addition, I have had art booths at the local CrestFest 2018 and 2019 and the Day of the Dead Columbus festival 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. My alcohol ink series was selected for an exhibit named “Art of a Pandemic” at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center in 2021. I served as a panelist for the “Art of a Pandemic” to discuss how the pandemic impacted my art for the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. I also had acrylic art selected for the “Te Recordamos” exhibit at Global Gallery in 2021 and 2022. In April 2022, I had alcohol ink paintings curated by 83 Gallery at Blockfort for the exhibit “Death, Taxes and 83 Gallery” in 2022 and at two exhibits at Brothers Drake Meadery. I have had alcohol ink paintings on display for an exhibit called “Art Heals” for the Franklin County Treasurer’s Office in 2022. My alcohol ink painting “Morning Endorphins” was selected by OhioHealth for a permanent display at Shelby hospital. I also had artwork selected for a Day of the Dead exhibit at ROY G BIV in 2022. June through December I was a resident artist at the Red Brick Collective in German Village. I had 2 pieces at the Amazing Cat art exhibit at 400 West Rich street collective in January of 2023. Three pieces were selected for the “Abstract” exhibit at Studio 18 Art Gallery March 2023. I currently offer alcohol ink workshops through World Peaces. I have also recorded an alcohol ink tutorial for OhioHealth and enjoy sharing the creative experience with others.

In addition, I recently opened my own custom art business named FlirtyArt LLC and feature the majority of my artwork through Instagram.
